Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your holidays...I can't believe it's officially back to reality now, a full week of work - ouch!

Over the next week or so you are probably going to see a lot of new changes at both www.efphotographs.com and my blog. My new website is up and running as we speak and has a couple of new features. You can now purchase prints from your session as well as a photobook.

I must tell you that for 2009 my prices have gone up a little to $125 for up to 4 people. All information can be found on my site.

Also, my blog is going to have a brand new look to it. That should, with any luck, be up by the end of the week. I'm excited!

Well I wish everyone a happy and healthy 2009! In the words of The Who's Tommy - "I've got a feeling '09 is going to be a good year."

Computer Woes

I think I'm cursed when it comes to computers. I've been having computer issues for the past 2 months or so and my laptop finally crashed.....and burned. You know it's pretty bad when the message you get tells you that you must back up your hard drive because failure of it is imminent. Yikes!

So right now my laptop is being fixed (and should run a bit faster) - talk about luck, I had 10 days left on the warranty so HP sent a new hard drive for nothing.

And I'm getting the latest version of Photoshop! yay!!! Can't wait to have my computer back home again!

It's not everyday you get to do a photo shoot at Citizens Bank Park. This past weekend I got to spend some time with the newly engaged couple, Jess and Jeremy. Although it was a bit chilly we had a great time and I think you can see that in the photos.

I love fall.

Fall means the changing of the leaves...

the start of a new season...

Fall also means the changing of the temperatures...which leads to me getting sick! haha yeah, that's right...I have a nasty cold. Since I'm home sick I thought I'd just post a brief update of what's been going on lately.

The photography business has been pretty slow for me lately but that's okay because I've been gearing up for a busy fall season at my other job - I'm an event planner.

In case you haven't noticed, I now have a new logo thanks to Voila! Customs by Nicole! She did a great job designing for me.

So on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) played their minor league affiliate, Philadelphia Phantoms, for the final time at the Wachovia Spectrum. In case you haven't heard, the Spectrum will be demolished at the end of this year in order to build a hotel and shopping center. That being said, the Phantoms will have to find a new home.

During the opening ceremony of the game, alumni members of the Flyers organization were on hand for a group photo.

The Phantoms beat the Flyers 4-2.

On Thursday I went to a concert at the Trocadero in Philadelphia to see my favorite band Cobra Starship....I even got to meet the band!!!!

Well that about does it for now!

Tomorrow I'm off to the opening reception at the Philadelphia Sketch Club.

This weekend I met up with Caitlin, my friend and fellow photographer. We normally go to some really cool place or even do a session together for a client but this time.....Caitlin and her husband JP were in front of the camera as my models. We had a great session and I know I had a blast....I think they did too!

I apologize for not posting anything in a while...my laptop computer that I normally use was going crazy - it kept freezing on me constantly and I was forced to perform a "system restore" on it. All is well now, and I think I've learned my lesson about backing things up!!

No pictures were lost - only my favorite sites, a couple fonts that I forgot to save and oh yeah, I can't seem to access my email account....not good. For now, if anyone needs to get a hold of me, pleaes email me at efarrington82@gmail.com.

I've been meaning to upload this photo to here. What do you think? I used actions on it to give it the cool feel.

Some interesting facts from Wikipedia about this beautiful flower:

1. The dahlia is named after the Swedish 18th-century botanist Anders Dahl.

2. There are at least 36 species of Dahlia.

3. Dahlia plants range in height from as low as 12" to as tall as 6'8''. The flowers can be as small as 2" in diameter or up to a foot, called a "dinner plate".

Rock of Cashel

What a beautiful day to visit the Rock of Cashel!

Many of the buidings on the site of date back to the 12th and 13th centuries. It's amazing how so many years later these buildings are still in tact. The Rock of Cashel is located in Cashel, County Tipperary.

Summer reading recommendation...

I know this has nothing to do with photography, but I just finished reading 2 amazing books by Emily Giffin - Something Borrowed and Something Blue.

Both are fantastic books but I must say that Something Blue was my favorite. I even shed a few tears at the end which I don't think has happened before.

The best part about the books is that they are a continuation of the same story...

If you haven't read them before, you really must. Start with Something Borrowed first!!

Back from Vacation

Wow! I can't believe it's been a month since I've last posted anything. I really must apologize for that, I was away on vacation from July 10 - 21.

Where did I go, you ask? IRELAND!! It was absolutely gorgeous and I would go back in a heartbeat. I also got to spend 12 days with some friends from college who I don't get to see too often anymore.

I'm still editing my photos but I have majority of them done. Let me show you where I went. We managed to cover over 1000 miles in the 12 days that I was gone.

Our journey started in Dublin....

(typical Dublin door....the story goes that after the death of Queen Victoria, the people of Ireland were instructed to paint their doors black to mourn her death however; she was not very fond of the people of Ireland so the people rebelled by painting their doors bright, vibrant colors.) This was taken through the window of my hotel room in Dublin. It is 9:02 p.m. and it is this bright outside. The sun does not set until almost 11 p.m.
In the Temple Bar area of Dublin I managed to find "Farrington's Pub". I just HAD to have my picture taken in front of this place. We even stopped in for a pint of Guinness.Here I am!!

Happy 4th of July everyone!!! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!! Not only was yesterday Independence Day, but it was also my birthday and I got to spend the evening with 5000 of my closest friends.

I say that because I'm a special events planner for a local town and we had a fireworks display.

Here is a photo from the evening...it's one of my best fireworks photos, ever, period.

This past Sunday I met my cousin and his family at a local playground for a photo session. We had a blast as the kids played in the sand and on the jungle gym equipment. Both kids - Charlie and Caitlyn, were little hams in front of the camera. Everytime I'd point the camera at Caitlyn she'd look at me with this huge smile! It was fabulous.

On Monday, I went to New York City with Caitlin to do a little photography and of course to visit Canal Street. So I bit the bullet and bought the Nikon D80 and the Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens. This summer (43 days to be exact) I'll be going to Ireland and so I wanted to have 1 lens that I can take with me and that would give me a significant zoom range. Also the D80 is a really sweet camera. It is scheduled to arrive tomorrow so with any luck I can play with it and get some photos up here ASAP.
I'm off to the Phillies game tonight....I'll post pix later on.

Five things on my To Do List today: Well the day is almost over... 1. Go to Burlington (check!) 2. Stop and pick up some hanging plants on the way home (check!) 3. Pay some bills (check!) 4. Update my blog/website 5. Get a good nights sleep - gotta be at work EARLY tomorrow!

Liberty Belle

Today I went to Burlington City, NJ for their annual Burlington Day. The day featured a quilt show, juried art show to name a few of the activities.

Similar to the Spirit of Philadelphia, Burlington now has it's own cruise in the Delaware River - the Liberty Belle. From what I hear there will be tours going on starting next week.

We just missed the opportunity to go on the ship by 10 minutes.

Lots to do...

Well last night was the start of Playoff Hockey in Philly for me. The Phantoms had their first home game of the season (Game 2 - series now tied 1-1). I got some good pictures since this series is being held at the Wachovia Center.

Then today, I went with Caitilin to an egagement photo session in Philadelphia. It was amazing. I got to work with a great couple - Sandi and Matt.

From there Caitlin and I went down to South Street and got some interesting "street photography". Then when we were on our way home we saw the "Free Mumia Protest". Who would have thought we'd get an opportunity to do some real photojournalism!!

I'll be busy editing for a while so as soon as they are up I'll show some here and put the rest on my site. Stay with me..........

I just wanted to share this with everyone. Not sure if anyone's heard of Deviantart.com (or DA) but it's a website where you can post photos, paintings, drawings, stories, poetry, etc. and people can comment and favore it. The site is almost like a myspace/facebook of the art world. I've been a member of that community since 2004 and I go in spurts of when I post things on there.

Today I happened to log in and I saw I had a large number of messages/comments and I was shocked. I thought something was wrong until I started reading what people had written. When you first log in to DA you are taken to their home page that lists the newest posts, popular, prints and daily deviations.

Well it turns out a good friend on the site, Anna suggested my photo called Disappointment to DA. Can you believe it was acutally picked as a feature??? So far today I've had over 3,600 views to that image alone. It's incredible...and the caption is really nice... it says:

Capturing emotion through sports photojournalism is something everyone finds most difficult to achieve. Trials after trials and errors makes one learn to appreciate the things that come through our viewfinder, especially when it may have been taken candidly or in the case of Disappointment by *NikonCha, a relentless forlorn feel of loss for ...well, screwing it up. Through the Viewfinder

I got an email from JPG.com and in it they listed their next contest is to take a photo "through the viewfinder" of another camera. I looked all around my house for another camera and I happend to stumble across a Kodak Brownie camera. It's pretty neat because it's like a twin lens reflex camera...you look through the top of the camera.

They aren't the sharpest but I like the way they came out.

Chestnut Hill College's Casino Night & Auction

I recently donated an 11x14 framed photograph of "A Moment of Silence" to my alma mater - Chestnut Hill College for their annual Casino Night & Auction. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to attend the event so Caitlin was kind enough to snap some photos for me.

So I know, I know.... I should have blogged about this a lot sooner than a week later. As some of you may know, I am a contributing photographer to PressPhotoInternational.com or PPI (it's a site similar to a Getty Images or AP Photos). But anway, I am covering AHL hockey for them. I am very thankful to Darren, the creator of the site, who was able to get a press pass for me to the 2/29/08 Phantoms game against the Binghamton Senators.

It was very exciting to have the press pass and be able to enter the building through the press entrance. When I arrived the man at the security booth allowed me to enter and I told him there was a press pass for me (which there was). He handed it to me and I asked him where I was supposed to go and he tells me to go straight back and turn left and keep going until I get to the Press Room. "Grrreat" I'm thinking. Where is the Press Room?? I head back and I kept walking for what seemed like a good 10 minutes. I went past all the front offices and finally came to a set of double doors. I open them up and sure enough there is the Phantoms locker room and then I can see some of Binghamton's players outside.

There were some security men standing in the hallway so I asked them where I needed to be and of course the one guy couldn't help me, he told me to talk to the other guy who was standing up a head a little ways. I didn't even have to ask him becuase I happened to find the press room (it was between the 2 locker rooms). So anyway, I went to the Upper Press Room, met the team photographer, and was shown where to go to take pics for warm-ups. I got to sit on the Phantoms bench!!! It was awesome. Then for the 1st and 2nd periods, I got to sit and take photos throught the little hole in the glass. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be but I can't wait to try it again!

Hi, sorry it's been a while since I've written anything on here. Last night I attended a tea and chocolate tasting at The Tea Fairy in Lafayette Hill, PA. Juried Photography Show

Tonight was the gallery opening for "Fall into the Arts at Croft Farm" juried photography show in Cherry Hill, NJ. It was a great turn out and I met some really talented people! I even had a friend in the show, check out her work at - http://www.caitlindomanico.com/. (Great job Caitlin!!)

These are the 2 photos that I had in the show. Prints are available of both. The black and white photo was taken at Eastern State Penitentiary and the other was simply taken in my backyard. More photos to follow shortly...
